Same Goal. Different Language.

Sometimes young people and adults care about the same thing and still hear something completely different. This experience helps young people and the adults who care about them understand why messages get lost and communicate in ways the other person can actually hear.

Ton explores why people with the same underlying goals can interpret each other's words so differently. Young people may feel judged, dismissed, controlled, or misunderstood. Parents, educators, mentors, and youth leaders may feel that their concern is being ignored or interpreted as criticism. Ton helps both sides slow down and understand what the other has actually been trying to communicate.

The conversation is not about picking a side. Ton is not there to speak for young people or against adults. He helps create the conditions for both to hear one another more clearly.

This is not a lecture. Ton uses activities that put participants in each other's shoes, giving them a felt sense of how the same words can land so differently depending on who is hearing them. Small-group conversation and guided prompts help participants practice listening without immediately becoming defensive.

The session can be run for young people, for youth-serving adults, or for both together. When both groups are in the room, Ton guides structured exchanges that help participants ask better questions, communicate concern without sounding controlling, and build greater trust and mutual understanding.

This experience is designed for youth and young adults, including high school students, college students, and young adult groups. It fits high school assemblies, student leadership days, retreats, youth conferences, and parish and community youth events.

It also works well for parent sessions, educator and mentor trainings, and joint youth and adult experiences where the goal is to improve communication and trust across generations.
