Who Am I When I Stop Performing?
Identity, Calling, Comparison, and Worth Beyond Achievement
What this experience explores
Many young people grow up measuring their worth by grades, achievement, recognition, and the approval of others. When performance becomes the source of identity, rest becomes impossible and failure feels like losing yourself. This experience helps young people separate who they are from what they produce.
Ton explores how identity gets tangled with comparison, the pressure to prove oneself, and the need for approval. Rather than telling young people they are enough and moving on, the session creates space to honestly examine where worth comes from and what it means to be valued beyond achievement.
The conversation points toward a deeper truth: that identity and calling are gifts from God, not trophies to be earned. Worth does not have to be constantly defended. It can be received and rested in.
How the session runs
This is not a lecture. Ton uses interactive activities, storytelling, and guided conversation to surface where young people feel they must perform to be valued. Rather than handing them answers, he invites them to reflect on their own experiences and listen to the experiences of others in the room.
Through reflective prompts and small-group discussion, participants begin to separate identity from achievement and consider what it means to be known and loved by God apart from what they accomplish. The session moves from activity into honest reflection and prayerful consideration of calling.
Who it is for

It is especially relevant for high-achieving communities where young people may quietly equate their worth with their performance and need a different starting point.
